$5,400 by $300 triennially with free quarters and convey-

-ance allowance of $360 per annum.

In recommending Mr. Hallifax for

this appointment I would desire to make it clear that no

disparagement of Mr. Wodehouse, Senior Assistart, would be

involved. Mr. Hallifax as a Cadet who entered the Service

prior to the separation of the Police Department from the

other posts in the Cadet Service, has a prior claim and I

also consider that his length of service and record give

him a much stronger claim. Mr. Wodehouse is a very

promising and well qualified young Officer who in due

course will no doubt obtain promotion.

5.

If Mr. Hallifax is appointed

Deputy Superintendent of Police, no Police Probationer need

be selected for service in this Colony at this year's

examination.

I have the honour to be,

sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Mangang

Governor,&C..
